PHAROAH SANDERS QUINTET

Pharoah Sanders (born October 13, 1940) is an American jazz saxophonist. A member of John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound". Saxophonist Ornette Coleman described him as "probably the best tenor player in the world".
Sanders' music has been called "spiritual jazz" due his inspiration in religious concepts such as Karma and Tawhid, and his rich, meditative aesthetic. Albert Ayler said "Trane was the Father, Pharoah was the Son, I am the Holy Ghost".
"Pharoah Sanders Quintet" is first leader album by Pharoah Sanders, recorded in September 10,1964. Personnel: Pharoah Sanders(ts), Stan Foster(tp), Jane Getz(p), William Bennett(b), Marvin Pattillo(perc).

Arthur Edward Pepper Jr. (September 1, 1925 - June 15, 1982) was an American alto saxophonist and very occasional tenor saxophonist and clarinetist. A longtime figure in West Coast jazz, Pepper came to prominence in Stan Kenton's big band.
"Discovery - The Savoy Sessions" is an album led by Art Pepper recoeded 1952 - 1953 in L.A and released on the Savoy label.

KNOW WHAT I MEAN? - CANNONBALL ADDERLEY

Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley (September 15, 1928 - August 8, 1975) was an American jazz alto saxophonist of the hard bop era of the 1950s and 1960s.
Adderley is remembered for his 1966 soul jazz single "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", a crossover hit on the pop charts. He worked with trumpeter Miles Davis, on his own 1958 Somethin' Else album, and on the seminal Davis records Milestones (1958) and Kind of Blue (1959).
"Know What I Mean?" is a 1962 album by Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, accompanied by Bill Evans and the rhythm section of the Modern Jazz Quartet. It was released on Riverside label.

Marion Brown (September 8, 1931 - October 18, 2010) was an American jazz alto saxophonist and ethnomusicologist. He is most well known as a member of the 1960s avant-garde jazz scene in New York City, playing alongside musicians such as John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, and John Tchicai. He performed on Coltrane's landmark 1965 album Ascension.
This album is the solo performance of Marion Brown released in 1985.

David Murray (born February 19, 1955) is an American jazz musician who plays tenor saxophone and bass clarinet mainly. He has recorded prolifically for many record labels since the mid-1970s.
Murray was a founding member of the World Saxophone Quartet with Oliver Lake, Julius Hemphill and Hamiet Bluiett.
Solo Live is an album of unaccompanied saxophone and clarinet solos by David Murray recorded live on May 30, 1980 in Nyon, Switzerland. Originally released on the Cecma label as two separate LPs it was re-released as a single CD in 1997.

OUT TO LUNCH! - ERIC DOLPHY

Eric Allan Dolphy Jr. (June 20, 1928 - June 29, 1964) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, bass clarinetist and flautist. On a few occasions, he also played the clarinet and piccolo. Dolphy was one of several multi-instrumentalists to gain prominence around the time that he was active. His use of the bass clarinet helped to establish the instrument within jazz. Dolphy extended the vocabulary and boundaries of the alto saxophone, and was among the earliest significant jazz flute soloists.
"Out to Lunch!" is a 1964 album by Eric Dolphy. His only recording for Blue Note as a leader. Today it is generally considered one of the finest albums in the label's history, as well as one of the high points in 1960s avant-garde jazz and in Dolphy's oeuvre.

SONG FOR MY FATHER - HORACE SILVER

Horace Ward Martin Tavares Silver(September 2, 1928 - June 18, 2014) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, particularly in the hard bop style that he helped pioneer in the 1950s.
His work with the Jazz Messengers, co-led by Art Blakey, that brought both his writing and playing most attention. "Song for My Father" is a 1965 album by the Horace Silver Quintet, released on the Blue Note label in 1965. The album was inspired by a trip that Silver had made to Brazil. The cover artwork features a photograph of Silver's father, John Tavares Silver, to whom the title song was dedicated. "My mother was of Irish and Negro descent, my father of Portuguese origin"

UP AT MINTON'S VOL.1 - STANLEY TURRENTINE

Stanley William Turrentine (April 5, 1934 - September 12, 2000) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He began his career playing R&B for Earl Bostic and later soul jazz recording for the Blue Note label from 1960, touched on jazz fusion during a stint on CTI in the 1970s. Turrentine was married to organist Shirley Scott in the 1960s, with whom he frequently recorded, and was the younger brother of trumpeter Tommy Turrentine.
"Up at Minton's" is a live album by Stanley Turrentine recorded at Minton's Playhouse, NYC, on February 23, 1961 for the Blue Note label and performed by Turrentine(ts) with Grant Green(g), Horace Parlan(p), George Tucker(b), and Al Harewood(ds). The album was originally released as two separate volumes on LP.

NUCLEUS - SONNY ROLLINS

Walter Theodore "Sonny" Rollins (born September 7, 1930) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist who is widely recognized as one of the most important and influential jazz musicians.
In a seven-decade career, he has recorded over sixty albums as a leader. A number of his compositions, including "St. Thomas", "Oleo", "Doxy", "Pent-Up House", and "Airegin", have become jazz standards. Rollins has been called "the greatest living improviser" and the "Saxophone Colossus".
"Nucleus" is an album by Sonny Rollins, released on the Milestone label in 1975, featuring performances by Rollins(ts) with George Duke(key), Raul de Souza(tb), Bennie Maupin(ts), Chuck Rainey(elb), Eddie Moore(ds), Mtume(perc), Bob Cranshaw(b) and Roy McCurdy(ds). It was recorded at Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, CA, on September 2-5, 1975.
