Gerald Joseph Mulligan (April 6, 1927 - January 20, 1996; aged 68), also known as Jeru, was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, composer and arranger. Though primarily known as one of the leading jazz baritone saxophonists - playing the instrument with a light and airy tone in the era of cool jazz - Mulligan was also a significant arranger, working with Claude Thornhill, Miles Davis, Stan Kenton, and others.

Charles "Charlie" Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 - March 12, 1955; aged 34), nicknamed "Bird" and "Yardbird", was an American jazz saxophonist and composer.
Bird on 52nd Street is a live album by Charlie Parker, originally released in 1957 under the Jazz Workshop label. It was recorded in 1948 on a home tape recorder. Even though it was remastered and restored in 1994, the recording is still very problematic, characterised by continuous noises and whirrings.

Charles Mingus Jr. (April 22, 1922 - January 5, 1979; aged 56) was an American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader. A major proponent of collective improvisation, he is considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers in history, with a career spanning three decades and collaborations with other jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dannie Richmond, and Herbie Hancock.
Pre Bird is an album by Charles Mingus consisting of music that was composed before Mingus first heard Charlie Parker, hence the title Pre Bird. It was released on Mercury Records in September 1961.
