Woodrow Charles Herman (May 16, 1913 - October 29, 1987; aged 74) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader. Leading various groups called "The Herd", Herman came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987.
This is an album recorded live at Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, April 1983, released on Concord Jazz label.

ASCENSION - JOHN COLTRANE

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 - July 17, 1967; aged 40) was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinettist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions and appeared on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.
Ascension is a jazz album by John Coltrane recorded in June 1965 and released in 1966. It is considered a watershed in Coltrane's work.

He belongs. to the experimental school of German free jazz which endeavored to avoid traditional timekeeping roles and emphasized spontaneous improvisation, as may be heard in his duo with Günter Christmann.

Barre Phillips (born October 27, 1934 in San Francisco, California) is a jazz bassist. A professional musician since 1960, he migrated to New York City in 1962, then to Europe in 1967.
Stuart Victor Martin (June 11, 1938 - June 12, 1980; aged 42) was an American jazz drummer.

突然段ボールは、日本のバンド。略称は突段。蔦木栄一(vo)、俊二(g)の兄弟を中心に1977年結成、以来日本のアンダーグラウンドシーンの重要なバンドである。2003年、栄一が逝去するが、弟の俊二を中心とし現在もバンドは活動しているようだ。
ロル・コックスヒル(Lol Coxhill、1932年9月19日 - 2012年7月10日; 79歳没)は、英国のフリー・インプロヴィゼーションのサックス奏者である。彼はソプラノまたはソプラニーノ・サックスを演奏した。
このアルバムは、コックスヒルが英国で録音した音源に突然段ボールが日本でミックスしたものである。

Coleman Classics Volume 1 is a live album by pianist Paul Bley, saxophonist Ornette Coleman, trumpeter Don Cherry, drummer Billy Higgins and bassist Charlie Haden recorded in California in 1958 and released Bley's on the Improvising Artists label in 1977.

The Trio (alternatively titled The Trio: Live From Chicago) is a 1961 live album by the Oscar Peterson Trio, recorded at the London House jazz club in Chicago. Personnel is Oscar Peterson(piano) Ray Brown(double bass) Ed Thigpen(drums).

Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea (June 12, 1941 - February 9, 2021; aged 79) was an American jazz composer, keyboardist, bandleader, and occasional percussionist. As a member of Miles Davis's band in the late 1960s, he participated in the birth of jazz fusion. In the 1970s he formed Return to Forever. Along with Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans, he is considered one of the foremost jazz pianists of the post-John Coltrane era.
Now He Sings, Now He Sobs is the second album by Chick Corea, recorded March 14, 19 and 27, 1968, released December 1968 on Solid State Records. The album features an acoustic piano trio consisting of Corea, Miroslav Vitous (bass), and Roy Haynes (drums).

Jake Hanna (April 4, 1931 - February 12, 2010; aged 78) was an American jazz drummer.
No Bass Hit was recorded in March 1979 and released on the Concord Jazz label.
