UPSIDE DOWNSIDE - MIKE STERN

Mike Stern (born January 10, 1953) is an American jazz guitarist. After playing with Blood, Sweat & Tears, he worked with drummer Billy Cobham, then with trumpeter Miles Davis from 1981 to 1983 and again in 1985. He then began a solo career, releasing more than a dozen albums. Stern was named Best Jazz Guitarist of 1993 by Guitar Player magazine.
"Upside Downside" is the second studio album by Mike Stern, released in 1986 through Atlantic Records.

MOBO SPLASH - KAZUMI WATANABE

Kazumi Watanabe (渡辺 香津美) is a Japanese guitarist. He was born on October 14, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan.
He released his first album in 1971. In 1979, he formed a jazz rock band with some of Japan's leading studio musicians, and recorded the album Kylyn. In the 1980s, he toured as guest soloist with Steps, the Brecker Brothers, and Word of Mouth, led by Jaco Pastorius. Watanabe created the jazz-rock/jazz-fusion band Mobo in 1983 with Mitsuru Sawamura (saxophone), Ichiko Hashimoto (piano), Gregg Lee (bass), Shuichi Murakami (drums), and Kiyohiko Senba.
"Mobo Splash" is the studio album by Mobo, released in 1985.

Brecker Brothers were a jazz music duo consisting of Michael Brecker and Randy Brecker. Michael played saxophone, flute, and EWI, and Randy played trumpet and flugelhorn.
"Heavy Metal Be-Bop" is a live album by the Brecker Brothers that was released by Arista Records in 1978. The album also includes the studio track "East River", which reached No. 34 in the UK singles chart in November 1978.

Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea (born June 12, 1941) is an American jazz pianist/electric keyboardist and composer. His compositions "Spain", "500 Miles High", "La Fiesta", "Armando's Rhumba" and "Windows", are considered jazz standards. With Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans, he has been described as one of the major jazz piano voices to emerge in the post-John Coltrane era. Dave Holland and Corea left to form their own group, Circle, active in 1970 and 1971. This free jazz group featured multi-reed player Anthony Braxton and drummer Barry Altschul.

Earl Rudolph "Bud" Powell (September 27, 1924 - July 31, 1966) was an American jazz pianist and composer. Along with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, and Dizzy Gillespie, Powell was a leading figure in the development of bebop. His virtuosity led many to call him the Charlie Parker of the piano.
The Amazing Bud Powell, also called The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1, is an album by Bud Powell, first released on Blue Note in April 1952, as a 10" vinyl. It is part of a loosely connected series with the 1954 companion The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 2 and the 1957 Bud! The Amazing Bud Powell (Vol. 3), all released on Blue Note.

SUNAYAMA - YOSUKE YAMASHITA TRIO

Yosuke Yamashita (山下 洋輔 born 26 February 1942) is a Japanese jazz pianist, composer and writer. He is praised by critics for his unique piano style, which is influenced by free jazz, modal jazz and soul jazz. Yamashita's first released recording was in 1963, and he became a pioneer of avant-garde and free jazz. In 1969, he formed the Yosuke Yamashita Trio. In 1974, the trio of Yamashita, Akira Sakata (alto sax) and Takeo Moriyama (drums) went on the first of a series of successful European tours, which helped spread beyond Japan Yamashita's and the trio's reputation as driving, fully committed free jazz musicians. The trio broke up in 1983.
Sunayama, recorded at Victor Studio, Tokyo (june 1978) featured standard Yamashita trio: Yosuke Yamashita(p) Akira Sakata(as) and Shohta Koyama(ds) with: Yasuaki Shimizu(ts) Hitoshi Okano(tp) Kenji Nakazawa(tp) Shigeharu Mukai(tb) and Kiyoshi Sugimoto(g) on track B1.
