OUR MAN IN PARIS - DEXTER GORDON

Dexter Gordon (February 27, 1923 - April 25, 1990) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He was among the most influential early bebop musicians, which included other greats such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell. Gordon's height was 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm), so he was also known as "Long Tall Dexter" and "Sophisticated Giant".
Our Man in Paris is a 1963 jazz album by Dexter Gordon. The album's title refers to where the recording was made, Gordon (who had moved to Copenhagen a year earlier) teaming up with fellow expatriates Bud Powell and Kenny Clarke, both Parisian residents, and native Parisian Pierre Michelot.

The name "Rova" is an acronym formed from the last initials of the founding members: Jon Raskin, Larry Ochs, Andrew Voigt, and Bruce Ackley. When Voigt left in 1988, he was replaced by Steve Adams, but the group did not change the acronym.

A major innovator of the bebop style of drumming, he pioneered the use of the ride cymbal to keep time rather than the hi-hat, along with the use of the bass drum for irregular accents ("dropping bombs").

JALI NYAMA - JALI NYAMA SUSO

Jali Nyama Suso (born circa 1925 - died 1991) was a kora player from Gambia. He had a program on Radio Gambia for 20 years. He had his first album in 1971 while he was teaching at the University of Washington. He did not fully live the tradition of a wandering musicians because he lost his leg at age 16, but by the mid-1960s became popular on radio. In the 1980s he toured in England, France, Germany, and Sweden.
This album was recorded in Berlin, Germany in 1984.
