THE MILES DAVIS/TADD DAMERON QUINTET

Tadley Ewing Peake Dameron (February 21, 1917 - March 8, 1965) was an American jazz composer, arranger, and pianist.
In the late 1940s, Dameron wrote arrangements for Gillespie's big band, who gave the premiere of his large-scale orchestral piece Soulphony in Three Hearts at Carnegie Hall in 1948. Also in 1948, Dameron led his own group in New York, which included Fats Navarro; the following year Dameron was at the Paris Jazz Festival with Miles Davis. From 1961 he scored for recordings by Milt Jackson, Sonny Stitt, and Blue Mitchell.

OSCAR PETERSON at CARNEGIE

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (August 15, 1925 - December 23, 2007) was a Canadian jazz pianist, virtuoso and composer.
He released over 200 recordings, won eight Grammy Awards, and received numerous other awards and honours. He is considered one of the greatest jazz pianists, and played thousands of concerts worldwide in a career lasting more than 60 years.
Oscar Peterson made his American debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City. We hear from the man who made it possible: jazz impresario Norman Granz. Peterson had been reluctant to perform, so the performance was not announced in advance: Peterson was called up from his seat in the audience during a jazz show to play. He went on to become a sensation.

LIFE BETWEEN THE EXIT SINGS - KEITH JARRETT

"Life Between the Exit Signs" is the first jazz album by pianist Keith Jarrett(born May 8, 1945,Pennsylvania, U.S.) as a leader. It was recorded on May 4, 1967 at Atlantic Recording Studios, in New York City and released on April 1, 1968, under the record label Vortex, a subsidiary label of Atlantic Records.
It is the first session featuring Jarrett, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Paul Motian together. The tracks are quite influenced by the music of Ornette Coleman and Bill Evans, Jarrett having long been an admirer of both, Haden having played with Coleman (1959-60) and Motian having played with Evans (1959-64).

Jeremy Steig (September 23, 1942 - April 13, 2016) was an American jazz flutist. He lived in Japan with his wife Asako. He died in Yokohama from cancer on April 13, 2016.
"What's New" is an album by Bill Evans with Jeremy Steig which was released in 1969 on the Verve label.

今はまだ人生を語らず - よしだたくろう

「今はまだ人生を語らず」は、1974年12月に吉田拓郎(当時はよしだたくろう)がリリースしたオリジナル・アルバム。森進一に提供し大ヒットとなった「襟裳岬」、猫に提供した「戻ってきた恋人」、かまやつひろしとデュエットした「シンシア」(南沙織の愛称、彼女のクリスチャン・ネーム)などが収録されている。1986年にCD化、1990年にはCD選書で再発売されたが、1曲目に収録されている「ペニーレインでバーボン」に「つんぼ桟敷」という差別用語とも受け取れる言葉が含まれていることから、いずれも生産が中止された。

AKISAKILA - CECIL TAYLOR UNIT

Cecil Percival Taylor (March 25, 1929 - April 5, 2018) was an American pianist and poet.
Taylor was classically trained and was one of the pioneers of free jazz. His music is characterized by an energetic, physical approach, resulting in complex improvisation often involving tone clusters and intricate polyrhythms.
"Akisakila" is a live album by Cecil Taylor recorded at Koseinenkin Dai-Hall, in Tokyo in May 1973 and originally released on the Japanese Trio label as a double LP. It features a performance by Taylor(p) with Jimmy Lyons(as) and Andrew Cyrille(ds).

BAGS MEETS WES! - MILT JACKSON and WES MONTGOMERY

Milton "Bags" Jackson (January 1, 1923 - October 9, 1999) was an American jazz vibraphonist, usually thought of as a bebop player, although he performed in several jazz idioms. He is especially remembered for his cool swinging solos as a member of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
John Leslie "Wes" Montgomery (March 6, 1923 - June 15, 1968) was an American jazz guitarist. One of the most influential guitarists of the twentieth century, Montgomery was known for an unusual technique of plucking the strings with the side of his thumb and his extensive use of octaves, which gave him a distinctive sound.
"Bags Meets Wes!" is an album by Milt Jackson and Wes Montgomery that was released in 1962.

Leon Konitz (October 13, 1927 - April 15, 2020) was an American composer and alto saxophonist.
He performed successfully in a wide range of jazz styles, including bebop, cool jazz, and avant-garde jazz. Konitz's association with the cool jazz movement of the 1940s and 1950s includes participation in Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool sessions and his work with pianist Lennie Tristano. He died during the COVID-19 pandemic due to complications brought on by the disease.
"Figure & Spirit" is an album by Lee Konitz recorded in 1976 and released on the Progressive label.

EVERYDAY I HAVE THE BLUES - JOE TURNER

Joseph Vernon "Big Joe" Turner Jr. (May 18, 1911 - November 24, 1985) was an American blues shouter from Kansas City, Missouri. Rock and roll would have never happened without "Big Joe".
His greatest fame was due to his rock-and-roll recordings in the 1950s, particularly "Shake, Rattle and Roll", but his career as a performer endured from the 1920s into the 1980s. Turner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, with the Hall lauding him as "the brawny voiced "Boss of the Blues".

ERIC DOLPHY AT THE FIVE SPOT, VOL.1

Eric Allan Dolphy Jr. (June 20, 1928 - June 29, 1964) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, bass clarinetist and flutist. On a few occasions, he also played the clarinet and piccolo. Dolphy was one of several multi-instrumentalists to gain prominence around the time that he was active. His use of the bass clarinet helped to establish the instrument within jazz. Dolphy extended the vocabulary and boundaries of the alto saxophone, and was among the earliest significant jazz flute soloists.
"At the Five Spot" volumes one and two is a pair of jazz albums documenting one night (16 July 1961) from the end of Eric Dolphy and Booker Little's two-week residency at the Five Spot in New York.
