The Art Ensemble of Chicago(AEC) is an avant-garde jazz group that grew out of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in the late 1960s. The ensemble integrates many jazz styles and plays many instruments, including "little instruments": bells, bicycle horns, birthday party noisemakers, wind chimes, and various forms of percussion. The musicians wear costumes and face paint while performing.
Live in Japan is a live album by the Art Ensemble of Chicago recorded in Tokyo, Japan in 1984 and released in 1985 on the Japanese DIW label.

Masabumi Kikuchi (菊地 雅章, nickname is Poo-Sun, 19 October 1939 - 6 July 2015) was a Japanese jazz pianist and composer known for his eclectic music that ranges from vanguard classical to fusion and digital music. He worked with many diverse musicians, including Lionel Hampton, Sonny Rollins, Woody Herman, Mal Waldron, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Gil Evans, Elvin Jones, Miles Davis, Gary Peacock, Paul Motian, Billy Harper and Hannibal Peterson.
"Poo-Sun" is a studio album by Masabumi Kikuchi recorded in 1970, released from Philips label.

SPEED AND SPACE - MASAHIKO TOGASHI QUARTET

Masahiko Togashi (富樫雅彦 March 22, 1940, Tokyo - August 22, 2007, Kanagawa) was a Japanese jazz percussionist and composer.
He worked with Sadao Watanabe, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Tony Scott in the 1950s, then founded the ensemble Jazz Academy in 1961 with Hideto Kanai, Masabumi Kikuchi, and Masayuki Takayanagi. He was an early free jazz leader in Japan, playing in this idiom with Yosuke Yamashita and performing with American musicians such as Ornette Coleman, Blue Mitchell, Lee Morgan, and Sonny Rollins on Japanese tours.
This album recorded in Tokyo at Teichiku-Kaikan Studio in November 22,1969.

Elvin Jones (September 9, 1927 - May 18, 2004) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. From 1960 to 1966, he was a member of the John Coltrane quartet (along with Jimmy Garrison on bass and McCoy Tyner on piano).He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995.

J.J.Johnson (January 22, 1924 - February 4, 2001) was an American jazz trombonist, composer and arranger.
Kai Winding (May 18, 1922 - May 6, 1983) was a Danish-born American trombonist and jazz composer. He is known for his collaborations with trombonist J. J. Johnson.
In 1954 producer Ozzie Cadena, then with Savoy Records, convinced Johnson to set up a combo with Kai Winding: the "Jay and Kai Quintet". The trombone styles and personalities of the two musicians, although very different, blended so well that the pairing, was a huge success both musically and commercially.
