STUDY IN BROWN - CLIFFORD BROWN and MAX ROACH

Clifford Benjamin Brown (October 30, 1930 - June 26, 1956) was an American jazz trumpeter. He died at the age of 25 in a car accident, leaving behind four years' worth of recordings. He was also a composer of note: his compositions "Sandu," "Joy Spring," and "Daahoud" have become jazz standards.
"Study in Brown" (EmArcy Records, 1955) is a Clifford Brown and Max Roach album. The album consists predominantly of originals by members of the band. The songs "Lands End", by tenor saxophonist Harold Land, and "Sandu", by Brown, have gone on to become jazz standards.

"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"(明日に向って撃て!) is a 1969 American Western film directed by George Roy Hill and written by William Goldman. Based loosely on fact, the film tells the story of Wild West outlaws Robert LeRoy Parker, known as Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman), and his partner Harry Longabaugh, the "Sundance Kid" (Robert Redford), who are on the run from a crack US posse after a string of train robberies. The pair and Sundance's lover, Etta Place (Katharine Ross), flee to Bolivia in search of a more successful criminal career.
The film won four Academy Awards: Best Cinematography; Best Original Score for a Motion Picture (not a Musical); Best Music, Song (Burt Bacharach and Hal David for "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"); and Best Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Sound (William Edmondson and David Dockendorf).

Quincy Delight Jones Jr. (born March 14, 1933) is an American record producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, arranger, and film and television producer. His career spans over 60 years in the entertainment industry with a record 80 Grammy Award nominations, 28 Grammys, and a Grammy Legend Award in 1992.
"This Is How I Feel About Jazz" is the 1957 debut album by Quincy Jones. Jones arranged and conducted three recording sessions during September 1956, each with a different line-up, from a nonet to a fifteen piece big band. Musicians on the album include Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Lucky Thompson, Hank Jones, Paul Chambers, Milt Jackson, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, and Herbie Mann.

George Rufus Adams (April 29, 1940 - November 14, 1992) was an American jazz musician who played tenor saxophone, flute and bass clarinet. He is best known for his work with Charles Mingus, Gil Evans, Roy Haynes and in the quartet he co-led with pianist Don Pullen, featuring bassist Cameron Brown and drummer Dannie Richmond.
Don Gabriel Pullen (December 25, 1941 - April 22, 1995) was an American jazz pianist and organist. Pullen developed a strikingly individual style throughout his career.
"Live at Montmartre" is a live album by the George Adams-Don Pullen Quartet with guitarist John Scofield recorded in 1985 for the Dutch Timeless label.

Grant Green (June 6, 1935 - January 31, 1979) was an American jazz guitarist and composer. Recording prolifically for Blue Note Records as both leader and sideman, Green performed in the hard bop, soul jazz, bebop, and Latin-tinged idioms throughout his career.
"His Majesty King Funk" is a jazz album recorded in 1965 by Grant Green in Verve label.

Pat Martino (born August 25, 1944) is an American jazz guitarist and composer.
He was chosen as Guitar Player of the Year in the Down Beat magazine Readers' Poll of 2004. In 2006, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissued his album East!. Martino is married to Ayako Asahi Martino, whom he met in Tokyo, Japan, in 1995.
"East!" is the third album by Pat Martino recorded in 1968 and released on the Prestige label.

Samuel John "Lightnin'" Hopkins (March 15, 1912 - January 30, 1982) was an American country blues singer, songwriter, guitarist and occasional pianist, from Centerville, Texas. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 71 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
"Strums the Blues" is an album by Lightnin' Hopkins featuring tracks recorded between 1946 and 1948 which were originally released as 10 inch 78rpm records on the Aladdin label. The album was one of the first 12 inch LP collections of Lightnin' Hopkins material to be released.

MANHATTAN MIDNIGHT - TORU OKI BLUES BAND

大木トオル(1947年5月23日 - )1976年に渡米し、自らのトオル・オオキ・ブルースバンドを率い、東洋人として初の全米ツアーを成功させた。その後3度、ミシシッピ・デルタ・ブルース・フェスティバルに参加し、日米の懸け橋としての功績が認められ、ミュージシャンとして永住権を取得。これらはいずれも東洋人として初である。
マディ・ウォーターズを筆頭にジョン・リー・フッカー、アルバート・キング、B.B.キング、ベン・E・キング、マイク・ブルームフィールドなどと共演している。特に「スタンド・バイ・ミー」のヒットで知られるベン・E・キングとは、「マンハッタン・ブラザース」というデュオを組んで活動した。
本作は、1979年にリリースされた大木トオルのデビュー・アルバムである。コーネル・デュプリー(g)がゲスト参加している。
