SOUL STATION - HANK MOBLEY

Henry "Hank" Mobley (July 7, 1930 - May 30, 1986; aged 55) was an American hard bop and soul jazz tenor saxophonist and composer. Mobley was described by Leonard Feather as the "middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone", a metaphor used to describe his tone, that was neither as aggressive as John Coltrane nor as mellow as Stan Getz, and his style that was laid-back, subtle and melodic, especially in contrast with players like Coltrane and Sonny Rollins.
Soul Station is an album by Mobley that was released in 1960 by Blue Note Records. It is considered by many critics to be his finest album.

SHADES OF REDD - FREDDIE REDD QUINTET

Freddie Redd (May 29, 1928 - March 17, 2021; aged 92) was an American hard-bop pianist and composer. He is best known for writing music to accompany The Connection (1959), a play by Jack Gelber. Redd's most successful project was in the late 1950s when he was invited to compose the music for The Living Theatre's New York stage production of The Connection, which was also used in the subsequent 1961 film.
Shades of Redd is an album by Freddie Redd recorded in 1960 and released on the Blue Note label.

Grant Green (June 6, 1935 - January 31, 1979; aged 43) was an American jazz guitarist and composer. Recording prolifically for Blue Note Records as both leader and sideman, Green performed in the hard bop, soul jazz, bebop, and Latin-tinged idioms throughout his career.
Born to Be Blue is an album by Grant Green featuring performances recorded in 1962 but not released until 1985 on the Blue Note label. Green is accompanied by tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes.

MOSAIC - ART BLAKEY & THE JAZZ MESSENGERS

Arthur Blakey (October 11, 1919 - October 16, 1990; aged 71) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader.
In the mid-1950s, Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers, a group that the drummer was associated with for the next 35 years. The group was formed as a collective of contemporaries, but over the years the band became known as an incubator for young talent, including Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd, Jackie McLean, Johnny Griffin, Curtis Fuller, Chuck Mangione, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Cedar Walton, Woody Shaw, Terence Blanchard, and Wynton Marsalis.
Mosaic is a 1961 jazz album released by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers on Blue Note Records.

Frederick Roach (May 11, 1931 - October 3, 1980; aged 61) was an American soul jazz Hammond B3 organist born in The Bronx, New York, United States. Roach made his record debut in 1960 with saxophonist Ike Quebec on the albums Heavy Soul and It Might as Well Be Spring and played with Willis Jackson. From 1962-64 he recorded 5 albums as a leader for the Blue Note Records label.
Brown Sugar is the fourth album by Freddie Roach recorded in 1964 and released on the Blue Note label.

Bennie Green (April 16, 1923 - March 23, 1977; aged 53) was an American jazz trombonist.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, United States, Green worked in the orchestras of Earl Hines and Charlie Ventura, and recorded as bandleader through the 1950s and 1960s. Green relocated to Las Vegas, where he played in hotel bands for the last decade of his career, though he made occasional appearances at jazz festivals.

TENDER MOMENTS - McCOY TYNER

Alfred McCoy Tyner (December 11, 1938 - March 6, 2020; aged 81) was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet and a long solo career. He was an NEA Jazz Master and a five-time Grammy winner. Not a player of electric keyboards and synthesizers, he was committed to acoustic instrumentation. Tyner, who was widely imitated, is one of the most recognizable and most influential pianists in jazz history.
Tender Moments is the eighth album by McCoy Tyner and his second released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded in December 1967 and features performances by Tyner with an expanded group featuring trumpeter Lee Morgan, trombonist Julian Priester, french horn player Bob Northern, tuba player Howard Johnson, alto saxophonist James Spaulding, tenor saxophonist Bennie Maupin, bassist Herbie Lewis and drummer Joe Chambers.
