Known for his warm tone, he was one of the best-documented saxophonists of his generation, recording more than 100 albums. Stitt was sometimes viewed as a Charlie Parker mimic, especially earlier in his career, but gradually came to develop his own sound and style, particularly when performing on tenor saxophone.

Eric Allan Dolphy Jr. (June 20, 1928 - June 29, 1964; aged 36) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, bass clarinetist and flutist. On a few occasions, he also played the clarinet and piccolo. Dolphy was one of several multi-instrumentalists to gain prominence around the time that he was active. His use of the bass clarinet helped to establish the instrument within jazz. Dolphy extended the vocabulary and boundaries of the alto saxophone, and was among the earliest significant jazz flute soloists.

William McKinley "Red" Garland, Jr. (May 13, 1923 - April 23, 1984; aged 60) was an American modern jazz pianist. Known for his work as a bandleader and during the 1950s with Miles Davis, Garland helped popularize the block chord style of piano playing.
