SILENT TONGUES - CECIL TAYLOR

Cecil Percival Taylor (March 25, 1929 - April 5, 2018; aged 89) was an American pianist and poet. Taylor was classically trained and was one of the pioneers of free jazz. His music is characterized by an energetic, physical approach, resulting in complex improvisation often involving tone clusters and intricate polyrhythms. His technique has been compared to percussion.
Silent Tongues is a live album by Cecil Taylor on solo piano recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1974.

Paul Bley (November 10, 1932 - January 3, 2016; aged 83) was a jazz pianist known for his contributions to the free jazz movement of the 1960s as well as his innovations and influence on trio playing and his early live performance on the Moog and Arp audio synthesizers. Bley's prolific output includes influential recordings from the 1950s through to his solo piano recordings of the 2000s.
Open, to Love is a jazz album by Paul Bley recorded 11 September 1972. It features Bley performing seven solo piano pieces and is considered not only one of his best albums, but a defining album in the history of the ECM record label.

Keith Jarrett (born May 8, 1945; age 76) is an American jazz and classical music pianist and composer.
Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey, moving on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s he has enjoyed a great deal of success as a group leader and a solo performer in jazz, jazz fusion, and classical music. His improvisations draw from the traditions of jazz and other genres, especially Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music.
Dark Intervals is a live solo piano album by Keith Jarrett recorded on April 11, 1987 at Tokyo's Suntory Hall and released on the ECM label in 1988.

渋谷 毅(しぶや たけし、1939年11月3日 ; 82歳)は、日本のジャズピアニスト、作曲家、編曲家。東京都生まれ。東京芸術大学音楽学部作曲科中退。妻は同じくピアニストの清水くるみ。1960年代前半より作曲家・編曲家として歌謡曲、映画、CMなど数多くの作品を手がける。1986年に従来の典型的なビッグバンド・スタイルから解放された “渋谷毅オーケストラ” を結成。浅川マキ、金子マリ、木村充揮、酒井俊、小川美潮、小沢健二などのヴォーカリストのギグやジャム、レコーディングに参加。 80代を迎えてからも、バンドをはじめ、世代・ジャンルを越えたセッション、ピアノソロなど、多彩で旺盛な演奏活動を行っている。
本作「渋やん」は1982年、西荻窪・アケタの店でレコーディングされた。

Thelonious Sphere Monk (October 10, 1917 - February 17, 1982; aged 64) was an American jazz pianist and composer. He had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including "'Round Midnight", "Blue Monk", "Straight, No Chaser", "Ruby, My Dear", "In Walked Bud", and "Well, You Needn't". Monk is the second-most-recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington.
Underground is the seventh studio album that Thelonious Monk recorded 1967-1968 on Columbia Records. It features Monk on piano, Larry Gales on bass, Charlie Rouse on tenor sax, and Ben Riley on drums. Its cover image depicts Monk as a French Resistance fighter in the Second World War. It won the Grammy Award for Best Album Cover.
