John Lenwood "Jackie" McLean (May 17, 1931 - March 31, 2006; aged 74) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and educator, and is one of the few musicians to be elected to the DownBeat Hall of Fame in the year of their death.
It's Time! is an album recorded by a group led by Jackie McLean recorded in 1964 and released on the Blue Note label. It features McLean in a quintet with trumpeter Charles Tolliver, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Roy Haynes.

Columbus Calvin "Duke" Pearson Jr. (August 17, 1932 - August 4, 1980; aged 47) was an American jazz pianist and composer. Allmusic describes him as having a "big part in shaping the Blue Note label's hard bop direction in the 1960s as a record producer."
Profile is the debut album by Duke Pearson, featuring performances by Pearson with Gene Taylor and Lex Humphries. It was recorded in 1959 and released the same year on the Blue Note label.

Paul Laurence Dunbar Chambers Jr. (April 22, 1935 - January 4, 1969; aged 33) was an American jazz double bassist. A fixture of rhythm sections during the 1950s and 1960s, his importance in the development of jazz bass can be measured not only by the extent of his work in this short period, but also by his impeccable timekeeping and virtuosic improvisations. Chambers recorded about a dozen albums as a leader or co-leader, and over 100 more as a sideman.
Whims of Chambers is a jazz album by Paul Chambers released on the Blue Note label circa January 1957. The album features performances by Chambers with trumpeter Donald Byrd, tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Horace Silver and drummer ”Philly” Joe Jones.

Arthur Blakey (October 11, 1919 - October 16, 1990; aged 71) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader. In the mid-1950s, Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers, a group that the drummer was associated with for the next 35 years.
The African Beat is a jazz album released by Art Blakey and The Afro-Drum Ensemble in November 1962 on Blue Note Records. The album features compositions by African and American musicians, all based on aspects of West African (especially Nigerian) music.

A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd was known as one of the rare bebop jazz musicians who successfully explored funk and soul while remaining a jazz artist. As a bandleader, Byrd was an influence on the early career of Herbie Hancock.
