BLUE HOUR - STANLEY TURRENTINE with THE THREE SOUNDS

Stanley William Turrentine (April 5, 1934 - September 12, 2000 ; aged 66) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He began his career playing R&B for Earl Bostic and later soul jazz recording for the Blue Note label from 1960, touched on jazz fusion during a stint on CTI in the 1970s. In the 1960s Turrentine was married to organist Shirley Scott, with whom he frequently recorded, and he was the younger brother of trumpeter Tommy Turrentine.
Blue Hour is a collaboration album by Stanley Turrentine and The Three Sounds recorded for the Blue Note label and performed by Turrentine with Gene Harris, Andrew Simpkins and Bill Dowdy.

LUSH LIFE - LOU DONALDSON

Lou Donaldson (born November 1, 1926; age 95) is an American semi-retired jazz alto saxophonist. He is best known for his soulful, bluesy approach to playing the alto saxophone, although in his formative years he was, as many were of the bebop era, heavily influenced by Charlie Parker.
Lush Life (also released as Sweet Slumber) is an album by Lou Donaldson recorded for the Blue Note label in 1967 and featuring Donaldson with Freddie Hubbard, Garnett Brown, Jerry Dodgion, Wayne Shorter, Pepper Adams, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, and Al Harewood performing arrangements by Duke Pearson. Due to the success of Donaldson's Alligator Bogaloo (1967) the album was not released until 1980 in Japan under the title Sweet Slumber and then finally released decades later internationally.

IT JUST GOT TO BE - THE THREE SOUNDS

The Three Sounds (also known as The 3 Sounds) were an American jazz piano trio that formed in 1956 and disbanded in 1973. The band formed in Benton Harbor, Michigan, United States, as the Four Sounds. The original line-up consisted of Gene Harris on piano, Andrew Simpkins on double bass and Bill Dowdy on drums, along with saxophonist Lonnie "The Sound" Walker, who dropped out the following year.
It Just Got to Be is an album by The Three Sounds with performances recorded in 1960. It was released on the Blue Note label in 1963.

CONSEQUENCE - JACKIE McLEAN

John Lenwood "Jackie" McLean (May 17, 1931 - March 31, 2006; aged 74) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and educator, and is one of the few musicians to be elected to the DownBeat Hall of Fame in the year of their death.
Consequence is an album by Jackie McLean recorded in 1965, but not released on Blue Note until 1979 as LT-994. In 1993, it was released as part of the four-disc Mosaic compilation The Complete Blue Note 1964-66 Jackie McLean Sessions, which was limited to 5,000 copies. In 2005, it was finally released on a limited edition CD as Blue Note 11428.

Alphonse(Alphonze) Lee Mouzon (November 21, 1948 - December 25, 2016; aged 68) was an American jazz fusion drummer and the owner of Tenacious Records, a label that primarily released Mouzon's recordings. He was a composer, arranger, producer, and actor. He gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The Essence of Mystery is the debut album by Alphonse Mouzon recorded in 1972 and released in 1973 on the Blue Note label.

Larry Young (also known as Khalid Yasin ; October 7, 1940 - March 30, 1978; aged 37) was an American jazz organist and occasional pianist. Young's early work was strongly influenced by the soul jazz of Jimmy Smith, but he later pioneered a more experimental, modal approach to the Hammond B-3.
Contrasts is an album by Larry Young recorded in 1967 and released on the Blue Note label.

Horace Ward Martin Tavares Silver (September 2, 1928 - June 18, 2014; aged 85) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, particularly in the hard bop style that he helped pioneer in the 1950s.
Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers is a 1956 repackage of 1955 10” LPs by jazz pianist Horace Silver with drummer Art Blakey and featuring Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Kenny Dorham on trumpet, and Doug Watkins on bass. By the time this repackage was released, this quintet had named themselves the Jazz Messengers, and the band name on the label reflected that.

In 1975 John Lee and Gerry Brown signed a recording contract with Blue Note Records and formed a working band of their own.

Robert Hutcherson (January 27, 1941 - August 15, 2016; aged 75) was an American jazz vibraphone and marimba player. "Little B's Poem", from the 1966 Blue Note album Components, is one of his best-known compositions. Hutcherson influenced younger vibraphonists including Steve Nelson, Joe Locke, and Stefon Harris.
Linger Lane is an album by Bobby Hutcherson recorded in 1975 and released on the Blue Note label.

INDESTRUCTIBLE! - ART BLAKEY and THE JAZZ MESSENGERS

Arthur Blakey (October 11, 1919 - October 16, 1990; aged 71) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader. In the mid-1950s, Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers, a group that the drummer was associated with for the next 35 years. The group was formed as a collective of contemporaries, but over the years the band became known as an incubator for young talent, including Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd, Jackie McLean, Johnny Griffin, Curtis Fuller, Chuck Mangione, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Cedar Walton, Woody Shaw, Terence Blanchard, and Wynton Marsalis.
Indestructible is a jazz album by drummer Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers. It was recorded in 1964 but not released until 1966, and was Blakey's last recording for Blue Note.
