Charles Mingus Jr. (April 22, 1922 - January 5, 1979; aged 56) was an American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader. A major proponent of collective improvisation, he is considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers in history, with a career spanning three decades and collaborations with other jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Herbie Hancock.
Mingus Plays Piano is a 1964 solo jazz album by Charles Mingus.

Vicente Montoliu Massana, better known as Tete Montoliu (28 March 1933 - 24 August 1997; aged 64) was a Spanish jazz pianist from Catalonia, Spain. Born blind, he learnt Braille music at age seven. His styles varied from hard bop, through afro-cuban, world fusion, to post bop. He recorded with Lionel Hampton in 1956 and played with saxophonist Roland Kirk in 1963.
Catalonian Folksongs is a solo album by Tete Montoliu recorded in 1977 and released on the Dutch label, Timeless.

Earle Lavon "Von" Freeman Sr. (October 3, 1923 – August 11, 2012; aged 88) was an American hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist.
Freeman was considered a founder of the "Chicago School" of jazz tenorists along with Gene Ammons, Johnny Griffin and Clifford Jordan. Vonski", as he was known by his jazz fans, was selected to receive the nation's highest jazz honor, the NEA Jazz Masters award. Freeman was the father of jazz saxophonist Chico Freeman.
Fire is an album by Von Freeman, released in 1996 on Southport label.
