EASE IT - THE ROCKY BOYD QUINTET

John Erskine "Rocky" Boyd (Boston, 1936) is an American jazz saxophonist.
He replaced Stanley Turrentine in the Max Roach Quintet and also took Hank Mobley's place in the Miles Davis Quintet for three months, after he left in 1961. However, Boyd never recorded in studio with Davis, and in early 1962 he went on the road with the Philly Joe Jones Quintet. His only known recording is Ease It, recorded in 1961 for Jazztime Records.

Vicente Montoliu Massana, better known as Tete Montoliu (28 March 1933 - 24 August 1997; aged 64) was a Spanish jazz pianist from Catalonia, Spain. Born blind, he learnt Braille music at age seven. His styles varied from hard bop, through afro-cuban, world fusion, to post bop. He recorded with Lionel Hampton in 1956 and played with saxophonist Roland Kirk in 1963.
Temas Brasileños is a an album by Tete Montoliu recorded in 1973 and released on the Ensayo label.

John Arthur "Jaki" Byard (June 15, 1922 – February 11, 1999; aged 76) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger. Mainly a pianist, he also played tenor and alto saxophones, among several other instruments. He was known for his eclectic style, incorporating everything from ragtime and stride to free jazz. Blues for Smoke is an album by Jaki Byard recorded in 1960 and released on the Candid label.

Hiroshi Minami(南 博) was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1960. He graduated from Tokyo College of Music, with a Bachelor of Music in Percussion in 1986. Minami studied piano under Koji Taku, Christian Jacob, and Steve Kuhn. In 1988, he moved to the United States on a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Performed and recorded with Jim Black, Chris Speed, Naruyoshi Kikuchi and the legendary Japanese vocalist Sumiko Yoseyama. Minami released several albums as a leader.
Touches & velvets Quiet Dream is an album by Hiroshi Minami released in 2004 on the ewe records.

Joona Toivanen (born 1981) is a Finnish jazz pianist and composer. He now lives in Gothenburg.
Toivanen, whose younger brother Taipani (born 1982) works as a bassist in his trio, has been in his trio since 1997 with drummer Olavi Louhivuori, whom he has known since school. He studied at the Finnish Conservatory. The Joona Toivanen Trio released their debut album“Numurkah”in 2000.

Georges Arvanitas (June 13, 1931 - September 25, 2005; aged 74) was a French jazz pianist and organist. He was born in Marseille, a child of Greek immigrants from Constantinople. His influences included Bud Powell and Bill Evans. In the late 1950s, he featured on albums by Art Farmer and Louis Hayes, and played with Dexter Gordon and Johnny Griffin.
3 AM is an album by Georges Arvanitas Trio recorded in 1958, Paris and released on the Pretoria label.
