Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 - June 6, 1991; aged 64) was an American jazz saxophonist. Getz performed in bebop and cool jazz groups. Influenced by Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, he popularized bossa nova in the United States with the hit single "The Girl from Ipanema" (1964).
Getz Au Go Go is a live album by Stan Getz and his quartet, featuring bossa nova singer Astrud Gilberto. It was recorded during two concerts in 1964 and released on Verve label.

Sérgio Santos Mendes (born February 11, 1941; age 82) is a Brazilian musician. His career took off with worldwide hits by his group Brasil '66. He has over 55 releases and plays bossa nova heavily crossed with jazz and funk. Mendes is a unique example of a Brazilian musician primarily known in the United States, where his albums were recorded and where most of his touring took place.
The Swinger from Rio is a 1966 album by Sérgio Mendes. Recorded over three days in December 1964 for the Atlantic label, it features guest artists Phil Woods, Art Farmer, and Hubert Laws, plus Antônio Carlos Jobim on rhythm guitar. It has also been released under the title Bossa Nova York.

Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (25 January 1927 - 8 December 1994; aged 67), also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and singer. Considered one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Jobim internationalized bossa nova and, with the help of important American artists, merged it with jazz in the 1960s to create a new sound with popular success. As such he is sometimes known as the "father of bossa nova".
