LAMENT FOR BOOKER ERVIN - BOOKER ERVIN

Booker Telleferro Ervin II (October 31, 1930 - August 31, 1970; aged 39) was an American tenor saxophone player. His tenor playing was characterised by a strong, tough sound and blues/gospel phrasing. He is best known for his association with bassist Charles Mingus.
This album originally released in 1975 and featuring Booker Evin alongside an all-star group, including pianist Kenny Drew , bassist Nils Henning Orsted Pedesen and Alan Dawson on drums. The album consists of a 1965 concert held in Berlin. A decade later (after Ervin's 1970 death) the performance was released for the first time. Also on this album is pianist Horace Parlan's somber solo tribute to Ervin ("Lament for Booker") which was recorded in 1975.

Pharoah Sanders (born Farrell Sanders, October 13, 1940; age 81) is an American jazz saxophonist. A member of John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound". He has released over 30 albums as a leader and has collaborated extensively with Leon Thomas, Alice Coltrane and Rinai Maurice, among others.
Message from Home is an album by Pharoah Sanders. It was recorded in New York City and Brooklyn, New York, and was released in 1996 by Verve Records. On the album, which was produced by Bill Laswell.

Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 - June 6, 1991; aged 64) was an American jazz saxophonist. Getz performed in bebop and cool jazz groups. Influenced by Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, he popularized bossa nova in the United States with the hit single "The Girl from Ipanema" (1964).

Shorter came to prominence in the late 1950s as a member of, and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he joined Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and then co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. He has recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader.
