COLTRANE JAZZ - JOHN COLTRANE

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 - July 17, 1967; aged 40) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was at the forefront of free jazz.
Coltrane Jazz is the sixth studio album by John Coltrane. It was released in early 1961 on Atlantic Records. Most of the album features Coltrane playing with his former Miles Davis bandmates, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb during two sessions in November and December, 1959.

Herman "Junior" Cook (July 22, 1934 – February 3, 1992; aged 57) was an American hard bop tenor saxophone player.
After playing with Dizzy Gillespie in 1958, Cook was a member of the Horace Silver Quintet (1958–1964); when Silver left the group in the hands of Blue Mitchell Cook stayed in the quintet for five more years (1964–1969). Later associations included Freddie Hubbard, Elvin Jones, George Coleman, Louis Hayes (1975–1976), Bill Hardman (1979–1989), and the McCoy Tyner big band.
Junior's Cookin' is the debut album led by Junior Cook which was recorded in 1961 for the Jazzland label.

宮沢 昭(みやざわ あきら、1927年12月6日 - 2000年7月6日; 72歳没)は、日本のジャズ・サクソフォーン奏者。長野県松本市生まれ。1944年陸軍戸山学校軍楽隊入隊、戦後米軍クラブなどで活動する。その後、守安祥太郎、秋吉敏子らと共演。1954年のモカンボ・ジャム・セッションでも演奏。1962年、アルバム「山女魚」を発表。1970年代には越路吹雪のリサイタル伴奏も務めた。釣りが趣味で、曲名やレコード・ジャケットにも採り上げた。2000年急性肺炎のため死去。
本作「木曽」は、1970年3月17日に録音された。メンバーは、宮沢昭(ts,fl) 佐藤允彦(p) 荒川康男(b) 森山威男(ds)。

Harold Lomax Ousley (January 23, 1929 – August 13, 2015; aged 86) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and flautist.
Ousley began playing in the late-1940s and 1950s. He accompanied Billie Holiday and recorded with Dinah Washington. He played as a sideman with Gene Ammons in the 1950s and with Jack McDuff and George Benson in the 1960s.
Tenor Sax is first album by Harold Ousley which was released in 1961 on Bethlehem label.

He began recording as lead musician in 1976 with Morning Prayer, won the New York Jazz Award in 1979 and earned the Stereo Review Record of the Year in 1981 for his album The Outside Within.
Beyond the Rain is an album by Chico Freeman recorded in 1977 and released on the Contemporary label.
