Clifford Everett "Bud" Shank Jr. (May 27, 1926 – April 2, 2009; aged 82) was an American alto saxophonist and flautist. He rose to prominence in the early 1950s playing lead alto and flute in Stan Kenton's Innovations in Modern Music Orchestra and throughout the decade worked in various small jazz combos. He spent the 1960s as a first-call studio musician in Hollywood. In the 1970s and 1980s, he performed regularly with the L. A. Four.

He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, studied with Andy McGhee at Berklee College of Music, and has a master's degree from Queens College, City University of New York. His initial training was classical, but he switched to jazz in college. He gained recognition for his work with Roy Hargrove.

Robert Michael Watson Jr. (born August 23, 1953; age 70), known professionally as Bobby Watson, is an American saxophonist, composer, and educator. He graduated in 1975, moved to New York City, and became music director for the Jazz Messengers from 1977 to 1981. He formed the band Bobby Watson & Horizon with bassist Curtis Lundy and drummer Victor Lewis, with whom he played throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Gumbo is an album by Robert Watson and The Horizon, recorded in 1983 and original released on the Amigo label.

Naked City was an avant-garde music group led by saxophonist and composer John Zorn. Active primarily in New York City from 1988 to 1993, Naked City was initiated by Zorn as a "composition workshop" to test the limits of composition (and improvisation) in a traditional rock band lineup. Their music incorporated elements of jazz, surf, progressive rock, classical, heavy metal, grind core, country, punk rock, and other genres.
Naked City Live (subtitled Vol. 1: The Knitting Factory 1989) is a live album recorded by Naked City in 1989 and released on John Zorn's Tzadik label in 2002.
