Douglas Watkins (March 2, 1934 – February 5, 1962; aged 27) was an American jazz double bassist. He was best known for being an accompanist to various hard bop artists in the Detroit area, including Donald Byrd and Jackie McLean.
Watkins recorded only two albums as leader: Watkins at Large for Transition and Soulnik for New Jazz. Watkins at Large is an album by Doug Watkins which was recorded in 1956 on the Transition Records.

Elvin Ray Jones (September 9, 1927 - May 18, 2004; aged 76) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. Most famously a member of John Coltrane's quartet, with whom he recorded from late 1960 to late 1965, Jones appeared on such albums as My Favorite Things, A Love Supreme, Ascension and Live at Birdland. After 1966, Jones led his own trio, and later larger groups under the name The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. Elvin was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995.
When I Was at Aso-Mountain is an album by Elvin Jones introducing Japanese pianist Takehisa Tanaka(田中武久) recorded in 1990 and released on the Enja label in 1993.

Takeo Moriyama (森山 威男, born January 27, 1945 in Katsunuma (present Kōshū) in Yamanashi Prefecture; age 78) is a Japanese jazz drummer. He was attended the Tokyo University of the Arts, taking a degree in percussion performance. He joined Yosuke Yamashita's small group in 1967, and went on several international tours with the group until leaving it in 1975. He moved to Nagoya in 1977 and began leading his own groups.
Green River is an album by Takeo Moriyama Quartet which was recorded live at the East-West Jazz Festival, Nuernberg, July 6, 1984 and released on Enja label.

Motohiko "Toko" Hino (January 3, 1946 in Tokyo - May 13, 1999; aged 53) was a Japanese jazz drummer.
Hino's father, who was a dancer and musician, taught Hino and his brother, Terumasa Hino, tap dancing as children. At the age of ten, Hino began playing drums, and by age 17 was playing professionally. In the mid-1970s, Hino was repeatedly voted by Swing Journal the best jazz drummer in Japan, though from 1978 he was based in New York City.

Aldo Romano (born 16 January 1941; age 82) is an Italian jazz drummer. He was born in Belluno, Italy. Romano moved to France as a child and by the 1950s he was playing guitar and drums professionally in Paris, but he first gained attention when he started working with Don Cherry in 1963. Although he has lived most of his life in France, he has retained an affection for Italy and has set up a quartet of Italian jazz musicians.

Since 1989 he has led his own band, and together with Vincent Herring formed the Cannonball Legacy Band. He is part of the NEA Jazz Masters awards class of 2023.
