MONGO EXPLODES - MONGO SANTAMARIA

Ramon "Mongo" Santamaria Rodriguez (April 7, 1917 - February 1, 2003; aged 85) was a Cuban percussionist and bandleader who spent most of his career in the United States. Primarily a conga drummer, Santamaria was a leading figure in the pachanga and boogaloo dance crazes of the 1960s. His biggest hit was his rendition of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man", which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
Mongo Explodes is an album by Mongo Santamaria recorded in 1964, released on Riverside label.

EL SONIDO MODERNO - BOBBY PAUNETO

Bobby "Vince" Paunetto (1944 - August 10, 2010) was an American Latin jazz vibraphonist and composer.
Bobby "Vince" Paunetto grew up in New York City and, influenced by Cal Tjader's music, began playing Latin music. In 1964 he got a recording contract with Seeco Records, for which his debut album El Sonido Moderno was created. From 1969 he studied at the Berklee College of Music, e.g. at Gary Burton. After graduating in 1973, he recorded a second album (Paunetto's Point), for which he also wrote his own compositions, combining rhythms of contemporary jazz and Cuban music.

Callen Radcliffe Tjader Jr. (July 16, 1925 - May 5, 1982; aged 56) was an American Latin jazz musician, known as the most successful non-Latino Latin musician. He explored other jazz idioms, even as he continued to perform the music of Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America. Tjader played the vibraphone primarily, but was accomplished on the drums, bongos, congas, timpani, and the piano.
