Elf studied at Berklee College of Music from 1969 to 1971 and worked with Jimmy McGriff in the 1970s , with whom he made his first recordings, as well as with Charles Earland , Grachan Moncur III ( Echoes of Prayer , 1974), Lou Donaldson and Heiner Stadler .

He introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato and staccato picking that influenced many later blues electric guitar players.
Live in Japan is a live album by B. B. King recorded in Sankei Hall, Tokyo on March 4 and 7, 1971 and released 1971 only in Japan as double LP. It was reissued 1999 for the first time outside Japan.

Masayuki 'Jojo' Takayanagi (高柳 昌行, December 22, 1932 – June 23, 1991; aged 58) was a Japanese jazz / free improvisation / noise musician. He was active in the Japanese jazz scene from the late 1950s. In the 1960s he formed New Directions (later New Direction Unit), which recorded several albums throughout the 1970s.
Kaoru Abe (阿部 薫, May 5, 1949 – September 9, 1978; aged 29) was a Japanese avant-garde alto saxophonist. Self-taught at a young age, Abe performed with notables such as Motoharu Yoshizawa, Takehisa Kosugi, Yosuke Yamashita, Derek Bailey, and Milford Graves, although he generally performed solo.
This album is duo performansed Takayanagi and Abe recorded at Kousei Nenkin Hall, Tokyo, June 28, 1970.
