Robert Edward "Bob" Brookmeyer (December 19, 1929 – December 15, 2011; aged 81) was an American jazz valve trombonist, pianist, arranger, and composer. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Brookmeyer first gained widespread public attention as a member of Gerry Mulligan's quartet from 1954 to 1957. He garnered 8 Grammy Award nominations during his lifetime.

Buddy Gene Emmons (January 27, 1937 – July 21, 2015; aged 78) was an American musician who is widely regarded as the world's foremost pedal steel guitarist of his day. He was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1981. Affectionately known by the nickname "Big E", Emmons' primary genre was American country music, but he also performed jazz and Western swing.
Steel Guitar Jazz is a 1963 studio album by Buddy Emmons. It was released in 1963 by Mercury Records.

Bernard "Barney" Jean Wilen (4 March 1937 - 25 May 1996; aged 59) was a French tenor and soprano saxophonist and jazz composer. His career was boosted in 1957, when he worked with Miles Davis on the soundtrack for the Louis Malle film Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Elevator to the Gallows). In 1959, Wilen wrote his two soundtracks Un Temoin Dans la Ville and Jazz sur scene with Kenny Clarke. He wrote a soundtrack for Roger Vadim's film Les Liaisons Dangereuses two years later, working with Thelonious Monk. Movie Themes from France is a 1990 jazz album released on Timeless Records by Barney Wilen and featuring pianist Mal Waldron.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk (August 7, 1935 - December 5, 1977; aged 42) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who played tenor saxophone, flute, and many other instruments. He was renowned for his onstage vitality, during which virtuoso improvisation was accompanied by comic banter, political ranting, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously.
Now Please Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith is an album by Roland Kirk, released on the Verve label in 1967. It contains performances by Kirk with Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronnie Boykins and Grady Tate. Edith is Kirk's wife at the time.

A member of organist Jimmy McGriff's hard-swinging group of the early 1960s, Johnson came into his own in the '70s, releasing a two albums on the Black Jazz Records label, including 1972's Spring Rain.

She began her studies in composition with Mal Waldron in Munich when she was fifteen years old. She played clarinet, then alto and tenor saxophone. As a saxophonist, she worked with Melba Liston, Clifford Jordan, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, George Gruntz, and Pheeroan akLaff.
In 1989, her debut album Dreamer was recorded for Candid Records, with contributions from Robin Eubanks, Howard Johnson, Francesca Tanksley, and Anthony Cox.
