Mingus is the tenth studio album by Joni Mitchell. It was released on June 13, 1979, and was her last studio album for Asylum Records. The album is a collaboration between Mitchell and Charles Mingus. It was recorded in the months before and after Mingus' death in January 1979 and is wholly dedicated to him.

His songs were a mixture of Japanese lyrics and American popular melody. In this way, he became popular in song making. It is said that he made around 4,000 songs during his lifetime.
This album is a collection of covers of Hamakura songs by artists who adore him.

Yusaku Matsuda (松田 優作, Matsuda Yusaku, September 21, 1949 – November 6, 1989; aged 40) was a Japanese actor and singer. In Japan, he was best known for roles in action films and a variety of television series in the 1970s as well as a switch to a wider range of roles in the 1980s. His final film appearance was as the villain Sato in Ridley Scott's Black Rain. He died in 1989 at the age of 40.
