SECOND GENESIS - WAYNE SHORTER

Wayne Shorter (August 25, 1933 – March 2, 2023; aged 89) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Shorter came to prominence in the late 1950s as a member of, and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he joined Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and then co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. He has recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader.
Second Genesis is the second album by Wayne Shorter recorded by the Vee-Jay label in 1960 but not released until 1974. It was his second session as leader, performing with his Jazz Messengers boss Art Blakey on drums, pianist Cedar Walton and bassist Bob Cranshaw.

BEYOND - JOSHUA REDMAN

Joshua Redman (born February 1, 1969; age 55) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He is the son of jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman (1931–2006). Redman won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition in 1991, and began focusing on his musical career. He was signed by Warner Bros. Records and issued his first self-titled album in the spring of 1993, which subsequently earned Redman his first Grammy nomination.
Beyond is a 2000 studio album by Joshua Redman released through Warner Bros. Records.

TALISMAN - BARNEY WILEN

Bernard "Barney" Jean Wilen (4 March 1937 - 25 May 1996; aged 59) was a French tenor and soprano saxophonist and jazz composer. His career was boosted in 1957, when he worked with Miles Davis on the soundtrack for the Louis Malle film Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Elevator to the Gallows). In 1959, Wilen wrote his two soundtracks Un Temoin Dans la Ville and Jazz sur scene with Kenny Clarke.
Talisman is an album by Barney Wilen which was recorded in Paris,1993 and released on the IDA label.

Layin' in the Cut is the seventh album by James Carter, released on the Atlantic label in 2000.

Boniface Ferdinand Leonard "Buddy" DeFranco (February 17, 1923 – December 24, 2014; aged 91) was an Italian-American jazz clarinetist. In addition to his work as a bandleader, DeFranco led the Glenn Miller Orchestra for almost a decade in the 1960s and 1970s.
Gone with the Wind is an album by the Buddy DeFranco which was recorded in 1952 and released on the Verve label.

Robert Michael Watson Jr. (born August 23, 1953; age 70), known professionally as Bobby Watson, is an American saxophonist, composer, and educator. He graduated in 1975, moved to New York City, and became music director for the Jazz Messengers from 1977 to 1981. He formed the band Bobby Watson & Horizon with bassist Curtis Lundy and drummer Victor Lewis, with whom he played throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Post-Motown Bop an album by Bobby Watson and The Horizon, recorded in 1990 and released on the Blue Note label.

Raymundo "Ray" Barretto Pagán (April 29, 1929 – February 17, 2006; aged 76) was an American percussionist and bandleader of Puerto Rican descent. Throughout his career as a percussionist, he played a wide variety of Latin music styles, as well as Latin jazz. In the late 1960s, Barretto became one of the leading exponents of boogaloo and what would later be known as salsa. A master of the descarga (improvised jam session), Barretto was a long-time member of the Fania All-Stars.
Can You Feel It is an album by Ray Barretto, recorded in 1978 and released on the Atlantic label.

Eric Gale (September 20, 1938 – May 25, 1994; aged 55) was an American jazz and R&B guitarist.
In high school, he visited John Coltrane's home after school and sat in on jam sessions, which inspired Gale's readily recognizable style. In the 1970s he became a studio guitarist for CTI Records, recording with Bob James, Stanley Turrentine, and Grover Washington Jr., and was a member of the R&B band Stuff.
Forecast is first leader album by Eric Gale, recorded in 1973 and released on the Kudu label.

Miles in Tokyo is a live album recorded on July 14, 1964, by the Miles Davis Quintet at the Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. It is the only album to showcase an early incarnation of his Second Great Quintet featuring Sam Rivers on tenor saxophone, following George Coleman's departure; after this, Wayne Shorter's appointment completed the classic lineup which recorded such albums as ESP and Miles Smiles, through to Miles in the Sky.

VOICES - GARY PEACOCK

Gary George Peacock (May 12, 1935 – September 4, 2020; aged 85) was an American jazz double bassist. He recorded a dozen albums under his own name, and also performed and recorded with major jazz figures such as avant garde saxophonist Albert Ayler, pianists Bill Evans, Paul Bley and Marilyn Crispell, and as a part of Keith Jarrett’s “Standards Trio” with drummer Jack DeJohnette.
Voices is a studio album by Gary Peacock featuring pianist Masabumi Kikuchi, percussionist Masahiko Togashi and drummer Hiroshi Murakami. The album was recorded in Tokyo in 1971 and released via Sony Records label.
