Clifford Everett "Bud" Shank Jr. (May 27, 1926 – April 2, 2009; aged 82) was an American alto saxophonist and flautist. He rose to prominence in the early 1950s playing lead alto and flute in Stan Kenton's Innovations in Modern Music Orchestra and throughout the decade worked in various small jazz combos. He spent the 1960s as a first-call studio musician in Hollywood. In the 1970s and 1980s, he performed regularly with the L. A. Four.

THE TENOR STYLINGS OF BILL BARRON

William Barron, Jr. (March 27, 1927 – September 21, 1989; aged 62) was an American jazz tenor and soprano saxophonist.
He first appeared on a Cecil Taylor recording in 1959, and he later recorded extensively with Philly Joe Jones and co-led a post-bop quartet with Ted Curson. His younger brother, pianist Kenny Barron, appeared on all of the sessions that the elder Barron led.
The Tenor Stylings of Bill Barron is the debut album by Bill Barron which was recorded in 1961 and first released on the Savoy label.

Gilbert John Mellé (31 December 1931 – 28 October 2004; aged 72) was an American artist, jazz musician and film composer.
In the 1950s, Mellé created the cover art for albums by Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins. Mellé led a number of sessions recorded for the Blue Note and Prestige labels between 1952 and 1957.
Patterns in Jazz is an album by Gil Mellé recorded on April 1, 1956 and released on Blue Note later that year.

Benny Golson (born January 25, 1929; age 95) is an American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger.[2] He came to prominence with the big bands of Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie, more as a writer than a performer, before launching his solo career. Many of Golson's compositions have become jazz standards including "I Remember Clifford", "Blues March", "Stablemates", "Whisper Not", "Along Came Betty", and "Killer Joe".
