CARICATURES - DONALD BYRD

Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II (December 9, 1932 - February 4, 2013 ; aged 80) was an American jazz and rhythm & blues trumpeter and vocalist. A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd was known as one of the rare bebop jazz musicians who successfully explored funk and soul while remaining a jazz artist. As a bandleader, Byrd was an influence on the early career of Herbie Hancock.
Caricatures is an album by Donald Byrd recorded and released on the Blue Note label in 1976.

ELECTRIC FUNK - JIMMY McGRIFF

James Harrell McGriff (April 3, 1936 - May 24, 2008 ; aged 72) was an American hard bop and soul-jazz organist and organ trio bandleader.
His childhood friend, organist Jimmy Smith, had begun earning a substantial reputation in jazz for his Blue Note albums and McGriff became entranced by the organ sound while Richard "Groove" Holmes played at his sister's wedding. Holmes went on to become McGriff's teacher and friend.
Electric Funk is an album by the Jimmy McGriff of performances recorded in 1969 and released on the Blue Note label.

FEVER - RONNIE LAWS

Ronald Wayne Laws (born October 3, 1950 ; age 71) is an American jazz, jazz fusion, smooth jazz saxophonist. He is the younger brother of jazz flutist Hubert Laws, jazz vocalist Eloise Laws and the older brother of Debra Laws.
He started off by performing with trumpeter Hugh Masekela. In 1972, Laws joined the band Earth, Wind & Fire where he played saxophone and flute on their album Last Days and Time. After 18 months working with Earth, Wind and Fire, he decided to become a solo artist.
Fever is the second album of Ronnie Laws released in 1976 by Blue Note Records. The album reached No. 13 on the Billboard Top Soul LPs chart.

INTRODUCING KENNY COX and The Contemporary Jazz Quintet

Kenny Cox (November 8, 1940 - December 19, 2008 ; aged 68) was a jazz pianist performing in the post bop, hard bop and bebop mediums. Cox was pianist for singer Etta Jones during the 1960s and was also a member of a quintet led by trombonist George Bohannon. By the end of the late 1960s he had formed his own Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet, which recorded two albums for Blue Note Records before the end of the decade.
Introducing Kenny Cox is the debut album by Kenny Cox featuring performances recorded in 1968 and released on the Blue Note label. The 2000 CD reissue added Cox's second Blue Note album Multidirection as bonus tracks.

Wayne Shorter (born August 25, 1933 ; age 88) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Shorter came to prominence in the late 1950s as a member of, and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he joined Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and then co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. He has recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader. Odyssey of Iska is the fourteenth album by Wayne Shorter, released on Blue Note Records in 1971. Musicians include guitarist Gene Bertoncini, bassists Ron Carter and Cecil McBee and drummer Billy Hart, along with multiple percussionists.
